The Bangs' first single was issued on their own Downkiddie Records label in 1981. A lawsuit by an East Coast bar band also named The Bangs prompted the group to rename themselves The Bangles. A new picture sleeve was created featuring the new group name and the single was reissued. The single and both versions of the sleeves have since become collector's items since neither song ever appeared on any later Bangles albums recorded for the Columbia label.

Getting Out Of Hand - Bangs (front) Front side of original picture sleeve for the "Getting Out Of Hand" single credited to The Bangs. The group released this in 1981 on their very own Downkiddie Records label. "Getting Out Of Hand" is credited to "Peterson" (Vicki), while the flip side is credited to "Hoffs-Peterson-Roback" (Susanna, Vicki, and David Roback of Rain Parade).
Getting Out Of Hand - Bangs (back) Back side of original picture sleeve for the "Getting Out Of Hand" single credited to The Bangs. My copy has a yellow label, but I've heard that other colors were also used. The words "Play This" are etched into the vinyl on both sides of the disc. In case you were wondering, both versions of the picture sleeve were printed in black and white.
Getting Out Of Hand - Bangles (front) Front side of reissued picture sleeve for the "Getting Out Of Hand" single credited to The Bangles. My copy has a green label. "Getting Out Of Hand" is still just credited to "Peterson", but now "Call On Me" is more clearly credited to "S. Hoffs-V. Peterson-D. Roback". In addition, the the publishing credit "Bangophile Music" appears on the label for the first time.
Getting Out Of Hand - Bangles (back) Back side of reissued picture sleeve for the "Getting Out Of Hand" single credited to The Bangles. Note the appearance of original bassist and harmonica player Annette Zilinskas in the tiny picture inside the letter "O". Her playing isn't heard here though, as these songs were recorded before she joined the group.

Sounds

No Mag Commercial - Performed by The Bangles when they were still known as The Bangs. Circa 1981. The big hits like "Manic Monday" and "Walk Like An Egyptian" were still half a decade away.
