  • Bernard Lagat lowered the meet and stadium records in the 5000m, clocking 13:19.14. Lagat won a highly competitive race, as six runners dipped below 13:24
  • Courtney Babcock also established new meet and stadium records in the 5000m, running 15:10.66
  • Kenta Bell erased the name of none other than Willie Banks from the Mt. SAC record books as he bounced a colossal 57-10 1/4 (17.63m) in the triple jump, the fifth longest jump ever by an American
  • Chris Rawlinson of Great Britain erased (by .01 second) the name of yet another titan of the sport -- Edwin Moses -- from the meet record book by clocking 48.49 in the 400H. Moses's record had been the oldest men's meet record, set back in 1979. Moses continues to hold the stadium record of 47.89
  • Alan Webb made his debut performance on the track as a collegian. After leading early in the race, Webb eventually faded to 9th (3:44.74) in a race won by Adrian Blincoe of Villanova in 3:41.85
  • J.J. Johnson dipped below 10.00 for the first time in his career in the 100m, winning with a time of 9.95
  • Adam Nelson (70-3) won his first Mt. SAC title in the shot by edging out John Godina (69-11)
  • Marion Jones won the 400m for the fifth consecutive year with a time of 50.46
