  • Mike Marsh won the 100m in 9.89w over Ato Bolden (10.01w) and Leroy Burrell (10.09w)
  • Ray Doakes skied 7' 6-1/2" in the high jump, while Dean Starkey (18' 9-1/4") led four vaulters over 18 feet
  • Carl Lewis captured his final Mt. SAC long jump title, leaping 26' 8-1/4"w
  • Matt Giusto used a 59.0 second final lap to record a 13:32.26 5000m victory over a competitive field that included Adam Goucher (7th, 13:45.84) and Meb Kelfezighi (13th, 13:52.06)
  • Balazs Kiss of USC set in new Collegiate Record while winning his third consecutive hammer title, throwing 257' 5"
  • Dave Johnson racked up 8322 points on his way to his fourth Mt. SAC decathlon title
  • Jearl Miles cruised to a 2:02.79 win in the 800m
  • Amy Acuff won her first high jump title at 6' 3-1/2"
  • Ramona Pagel scored her ninth Mt. SAC shot put title with a toss of 61' 4"
  • Dawn Dumble won her second consecutive discus crown, throwing 189' 0"
  • Ashley Selman won the javelin at 190' 3"
  • Michael Granville won the third of four consecutive high school 400m titles, setting the still-standing meet record of 46.49
  • Felix Sanchez, the 2001 World Champion in the 400H, gave an early indication of his talent by winning the high school 300H in 37.51
