- Grace Jackson set a Jamaican national record at 400m, running 50.72
- UCLA set meet and stadium records in the 4X400m relay, winning with a time of 3:00.81. UCLA's anchor Danny Everett just barely held off Athletics West anchor Butch Reynolds, who brought his team home in 3:00.88. Everett also won the 400m, dashing 45.37
- Johnny Gray captured his first Relays title, winning the 800m in 1:45.68
- Randy Barnes threw the shot 72-6 1/2
- Mac Wilkins won his second discus title with a throw of 222-11
- Mike Powell won the long jump in 26-11 3/4
- Inger Miller won the girl's high school 100m title by dashing 12.21
