the meet and stadium record
- Jackie
Joyner
scored 6910 points in the heptathlon, a mark that remains the meet and
stadium record. This would have been a new American Record, but the
failure of the automatic timer during the 100H negated record consideration.
- Carl
Lewis won his fifth consecutive 100m title in 10.14, and doubled
for the first time in the long jump with a winning leap of 27-4w
- John
Brenner won the shot with a toss of 71-5 1/2. Randy Barnes was second
at 70-10
- Doug Fraley of
Fresno State vaulted 18-11, a meet and stadium record that would stand
until 2001
- The Santa Monica
Track Club 4x800m relay team (James Robinson 1:49.8, David Mack 1:46.7,
Earl Jones 1:45.2, Johnny Gray 1:44.8) not only set a still-standing
meet and stadium record, but also a still-standing American Record,
with a time of 7:06.5
- PattiSue Plummer
was a double winner in the 3000m (8:59.6) and 5000m (15:52.6)
- Jewel Lovelady
won the inaugural women's triple jump, bounding 41-6
- Quincy Watts won
the high school 100m (10.52) and 200m (21.03) titles. Quincy's 200m
time remains the high school meet record
- The first ever
AAFLA-Mt. SAC Youth Days attracted 1,700 participants
- The meet set a
3-day attendance record of 25,000
