  • Carl Lewis won the 100m in a windy 9.93w
  • Larry Myricks took a break from the long jump runway to win the 200m in 20.36
  • Mark Fricker of Oregon State captured his second consecutive 1500m title in 3:39.94
  • Graeme Fell lowered the meet record in the steeplechase to 8:34.7
  • Mark Anderson scored 8251 points in the decathlon
  • Michael Carter, who still holds the American high school shot put record, and who would go on to win a silver medal at the 1984 Olympics and an outstanding career in the NFL, won the shot title while competing for SMU with a throw of 67-11 3/4
  • Ben Plucknett, who set the still-standing American Record in 1981, tossed the discus 227-7, a mark which remains the current meet record
  • Mike Barnett set a meet record of 296-5 in the javelin
  • Carol Lewis won the second of four consecutive long jump titles with a leap of 21-8 1/2
  • Stephanie Hightower covered the 100H in 13.00
  • The Athletics West 4x800m relay team, comprised of Sue Addison, Lee Arbogast, Chris Miller and Mary Decker, set the still standing American Record by running 8:17.0
  • Evelyn Ashford set the still-standing meet and stadium record of 22.07 for the 200m
  • Ria Stalman established a new Dutch national record of 220-6 in the discus
