1976 Meet Highlights


April 23-25, 1976
  • The Mt. SAC Relays made the switch from yards to meters in the sprint events
  • Mac Wilkins set a new World Record in the discus, tossing the platter 226-11. Mac topped a great field, as 15 throwers broke 185 feet. Later this year, Mac went on to win the gold medal at the Montreal Olympics
  • Reynaldo Brown won his sixth consecutive high jump title, clearing 7-3. This was the best mark he recorded among this six victories
  • Dedy Cooper won the 110H in a windy 13.6w
  • Future American Record holder Henry Marsh of BYU won the steeplechase in 8:43.4
  • Arnie Robinson won his third long jump title, spanning 26-5 3/4
  • Ron Livers bounded to a new meet record in the triple jump with a leap of 54-11
  • Tony Sandoval of Stanford lowered the meet record in the 10000m to 29:20.2
  • Rosalyn Bryant was a triple winner, sprinting to victories in the 100m (11.7), 200m (23.8) and 400m (52.9)
  • Debbie Brill became the first Relays' champion to clear 6 feet in the high jump, scaling 6-2 3/4
  • Kate Schmidt became the first javelin thrower to top 200 feet in Relays competition, while winning her fourth consecutive Relays' title in 211-6
