- Steve Williams won the 100 yard dash in a windy 9.1w
- Ron Mooers and Don Baird set meet and stadium records in the vault, both clearing 17-8 1/2, with Mooers winning on misses
- John Powell captured his third consecutive discus title with a toss of 216-5
- Rosalyn Bryant swept the short sprints, winning the 100 (10.6w) and 220 (24.1) yard dashes
- Robin Campbell doubled with wins in the 440y (53.5) and 880y (2:11.6)
- Julie Brown of UCLA was also a double winner, capturing the mile (4:43.5) and 2-mile (10:12.8) titles
- Jane Frederick won her first title, taking the long jump with a leap of 18-11 1/2
- Kate Schmidt hurled the javelin 191-9
- Dave Laut won the high school shot title with a throw of 64-5 1/2. Dave would go on to win a bronze medal at the 1984 Olympics
