- Grambling College equalled the World Record in the 440 relay, blazing to a time of 40.0
- Frank Covelli tossed the javelin 260' 7"
- Dallas Long won his 4th -- and final -- Mt. SAC shot title, throwing 63' 10-1/4", his best mark among his four winning throws
- Ed Burke won the first of five consecutive hammer titles with a 214' 8-1/2" PR throw
- Jim Grelle (4:01.1) edged Archie San Romani (4:01.2) in the mile
- Bob Schul covered 5000m in 13:59.4
- George Young won his first steeplechase title, running 8:47.4
- Ralph Boston also notched his first title in the long jump, leaping 25' 10-1/4"w
- Darel Newman dashed 10.1 for 100m
- C.K. Yang won his 3rd -- and final -- Mt. SAC decathlon title, scoring 8043 points
- Paul Wilson of Downey High set a national high school pole vault record with a jump of 15-7 1/2. Finishing third, with a jump of 14 feet, was Bob Seagren
