  • Al Oerter broke the discus World Record for the third time in his career, throwing 205' 5-1/2"
  • C.K. Yang set a World Record in the decathlon, scoring 9121 points (8009 adjusted for new scoring tables). Back in 6th place with 6552 points was a young decathlete named Bill Toomey
  • Bob Hayes smoked a windy 9.9w for 100m
  • Mike Larrabee, the '64 400m Olympic champion, won the 440y in 47.2
  • Ron Larrieu became the first Mt. SAC 10000m champion to dip under 30 minutes by running 29:33.8
  • Rex Cawley won his fourth consecutive -- and final -- Mt. SAC 440y/400m hurdle title in 50.9
  • Parry O'Brien claimed his first shot title, throwing 60' 9-1/2"
  • Irene Obera won the inaugural women's 100y championship, dashing 11.0
  • In the high school pole vault competition, a Pomona High School student by the name of Bob Seagren finished fifth with a jump of 13 feet.
