  • Bill Dellinger missed breaking the American Record by just 0.2 seconds as he covered two miles in 8:48.2
  • After failing the previous day to break the American record at 10,000m (he dropped out shortly after passing the five mile mark in 24:15.2, almost 8 seconds faster than the American Record for that distance), Max Truex returned the next day to win the three mile in 13:59.3
  • Ray Norton of San Jose State dashed 9.5 for 100y, then ran the anchor leg on SJS's 440 Relay (40.4)
  • Dallas Long heaved the shot 61-10 1/2
  • Rink Babka won the discus with a throw of 189-4
  • Hal Connolly threw the hammer 215-4, winning the first of four consecutive titles
  • Charles Dumas scaled 6-9 1/2 in the high jump
  • Ron Morris cleared 14-10, winning the first of three consecutive pole vault titles
  • USC won both the mile (3:13.4) and two mile (7:31.8) relays
