One of the truly great throwers in history, Connie Price-Smith was a stalwart at the Mt. SAC Relays, competing in Walnut most every year of her brilliant post-collegiate career from 1986 through 2001. She won five titles at Mt.SAC, winning the discus in 1990 and the shot put in 1990, 91, 99 and 2000. She used the Relays as her springboard for the rest of the season and felt it was important to compete in Walnut in April. Connie had a remarkable national and international career. She was a member of four consecutive Olympic teams beginning in 1988 and also made six World Championship teams, beginning in 1987. She captured nine US titles in the shot put and another five in the discus. Connie also won the Pan American Games shot title in 1999, the silver in the 1991 Games and won the Pan-Am bronze in the discus in 1987. In the shot, she was ranked in the top ten in the US an amazing 16 years in a row including 11 times being ranked number 1 and she was also ranked nine times in the top ten in the US in the discus. She has life time bests in the shot of 64-3 3/4 and 212-8 in the discus. Her shot mark still makes her the second longest thrower in US history. Connie is a very worthy addition to the Relays Hall of Fame and we are proud to induct her into this select group of athletes. Born: 1962 College: Southern Illinois '85 |
