The fabulous Marion Jones will once again compete at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Jones is one of the greatest female athletes ever and continued her run
of titles by capturing the 100 meters at the World Championships in
Seville in 1999. Jones' husband, C. J. Hunter, is the defending Mt. SAC
champ in the shot put and captured the gold medal in the Sevill
Championships as well. C. J. will compete in his specialty in the relays.
The great sprint relay teams from HS International have been invited
to compete against many of the other great U.S. club teams as well as
selected foreign teams. Stacy Dragila, who has established American
records in two of the past three relays in the pole vault will attempt
to become a four time champion. Many other great athletes from the
U.S. and abroad will compete at the 42nd edition of the largest meet in
the nation.
Competition was red hot at the 41st edition of the Mt. SAC Relays.
Sanderlei Parrela of Brazil set a meet record in the 400 meters in
44.72 and his teammate, Hudson de Souza, set a new standard in the
mile by winning in 3:56.98. C. J. Hunter tossed the shot 70-3,
a lifetime best, and ageless Tom Petranoff won the javelin with a throw
of 250-10.
On the distaff side, Marion Jones won her only 400 meter race of the year
in 50.79 and Melissa Morrison captured the 100 hurdles in a great time of
12.55. Two fabulous marks were recorded in the field events with Tisha
Waller jumping 6-6 1/4 in the high jump for a new meet and stadium record
and Stacy Dragila setting yet another American Record in the Pole vault
with her amazing 14-7 1/2. The 42nd meet will showcase many of these
fine athletes along with other World Championship medalists from Seville.
